Economy - Economic Questions

Pytanie #1:

Even if GOP wins the House/Senate this Nov or Presidency in 2012?

Please explain how does it solves any problem.
If Democrats are bad no offense Republicans are worse if one look at the history America suffered its worst time under Republican rule
1. 9/11 Terrorist Attacks
2. Economic Recession
3. Double of National Debt and Deficit
4. Housing Crisis
5. Mortgage Bubble
6. Guantanamo Bay illegal prison
and so many other things and I am not even counting post 2006
Judging by the population that frequents YA are predominately people claiming to be conservatives who ONLY want GOP in power
I am not saying Democrats are any better but contrary to the beliefs America has done better under DNC but shouldn't we ( Americans ) now demand a third party independents to have chance breaking the monopoly of GOP/DNC
Yes I am liberal but above that I am an American

Pytanie #2:

Liberals: When do you expect to see an economic turnaround?

Let us define my criteria: I want to see an unemployment rate similar to when we had a healthy economy last (about 5.5% as of May 2008) and the stock market at about 13000 (DJIA) (May 2008) which is where it was at just before the smart money and corporations realized McCain would likely not win the election.

If you do not like that criteria, you can use the normal unemployment rate (4.5%) and the last stockmarket high (DJIA @14000 @end of 2007).

I would like the answer expressed in years and months rather than being expressed in excuses and alibis.
Those are the only criteria that matter to me, wise guy. I want employment and my retirement to go up again. Why should I want what *you * want me to want, you flaming Liberal? As we can see no Liberal can express the answer in years and months, only in conjecture. Just as I thought.

Pytanie #3:

What are your economic predictions for the next 6 months?

Paul Craig Roberts ( former treasury dept under Reagan) is saying it will be a depression mixed with inflation -- people will lose their jobs as prices rise

He is also suggesting you move to Canada --- please don't and if you do please don't make any suggestions when here you wrecked one economy that should be enough for you shouldn't it?

BUT what are YOUR predictions for the economy over the next 6 months

Pytanie #4:

Gulf of Mexico --- and Michigan What are the economic costs going to be to the residents?

EPA: Michigan oil spill may have exceeded 1M gallons

The leak in the 30-inch pipeline, which was built in 1969 and carries about 8 million gallons of oil daily from Griffith, Indiana to Sarnia, Ontario, happened near Enbridge's Marshall, Mich., pump station early Monday. The cause of the spill is under investigation, the AP reports.

The pipeline and pumps were shut down when the spill was discovered. Enbridge crews and contractors used oil skimmers and absorbent booms to control the spill, the Post-Tribune reports.

"This is our responsibility," Enbridge's president and chief executive Patrick D. Daniel told the AP Tuesday evening. "This is our mess. We're going to clean it up."
Endbridge is my gas supplier --- and I do not want to hear the lies out of them I have heard out of BP so we will see what happens

Pytanie #5:

I'm thinking of investing in white gold and diamonds... not a huge amount... but how "safe" is this investment? Comparisons to heavy-weight stocks (Apple, AT&T) are welcome...

Pytanie #7:

Pytanie #8:

Economic question please help?

Loretta buys a one-year debt security on December 31, 2011, for $10,000, which will pay her a nominal interest rate of 5% percent. From December 31, 2011, to December 31, 2012, the inflation rate is 2 percent. Loretta has a tax rate of 40 percent.

How much nominal interest does Loretta earn during the year?

How much does Loretta pay in taxes on her interest income?

How much is Loretta’s after-tax nominal income?

How much principal does Loretta lose because of inflation?

Pytanie #9:

Are these the signs of an American collapse?

Most of us were not alive during the Great Depression, but those who were remember how incredibly painful it was for America to deleverage and bring the economic system back into some type of balance.

So if our current debt bubble is far worse, what kind of economic horror is ahead for us?

But the truth is that we are facing some circumstances that even the folks back during the Great Depression did not have to deal with....

1 - Back in the 1930s, tens of millions of Americans lived on farms or knew how to grow their own food. Today the vast majority of Americans are totally dependent on the system for even their most basic needs.

2 - A vast horde of Baby Boomers is expecting to retire, and the "Social Security trust fund" has nothing but 2.5 trillion dollars of government IOUs in it. According to an official U.S. government report, rapidly growing interest costs on the U.S. national debt together with spending on major entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare will absorb approximately 92 cents of every dollar of federal revenue by the year 2019. This is a financial tsunami the likes of which Americans back in the 1930s could never have even dreamed of.

3 - American workers never had to compete for jobs with workers on the other side of the world back in the 1930s. But today, millions upon millions of our jobs have been "outsourced" to China, India and a vast array of third world nations where desperate workers are more than happy to slave away for big global corporations for less than a dollar an hour. How in the world are American workers supposed to compete with that?

4 - Back in the 1930s, there was nothing like the gigantic derivatives bubble that hangs over us today. The total value of all derivatives worldwide is estimated to be somewhere between 600 trillion and 1.5 quadrillion dollars. The danger that we face from derivatives is so great that Warren Buffet has called them "financial weapons of mass destruction". When this bubble pops there won't be enough money in the entire world to fix it.

5 - During the Great Depression, the United States economy was relatively self-contained. But today we truly do live in a global economy. Unfortunately that means that a severe economic crisis in one part of the world is going to affect us as well. Right now, the United States is far from alone in dealing with a massive debt crisis. Greece, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Portugal and a number of other European nations are in real danger of actually defaulting on their debts. Japan (the third biggest economy in the world) is on the verge of complete and total economic collapse. So what happens to the U.S. economy when the dominoes start to fall?

The truth is that by almost any measure, we are in worse economic condition than we were right before the beginning of the Great Depression. We have been living way beyond our means and the debts we have been piling up are clearly not anywhere close to sustainable.

Did you think that we could just continue to run deficits equal to 10 percent of GDP forever?

Pytanie #10:

Have Republicans and global warming deniers reverted to pre-1980s thinking on cap and trade?

Harvard economist Robert Stavins and MIT economist (and Member of the Council of Economic Advisers in the George H. W. Bush administration) Dick Schmalensee wrote an op-ed in response to the US Senate's failure to pass a climate bill with a carbon cap and trade system.

They write Republicans "should resist demonizing market-based approaches to environmental protection and reverting to pre-1980s thinking that saddled business and consumers with needless costs. In fact, market-based policies should be embraced, not condemned by Republicans (as well as Democrats). After all, these policies were innovations developed by conservatives in the Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush administrations (and once strongly condemned by liberals).

In the 1980s, President Ronald Reagan’s Environmental Protection Agency successfully put in place a cap-and-trade system to phase out leaded gasoline. The result was a more rapid elimination of leaded gasoline from the marketplace than anyone had anticipated, and at a savings of some $250 million per year, compared with a conventional no-trade, command-and-control approach.

In June 1989, President George H. W. Bush proposed the use of a cap-and-trade system to cut by half sulfur dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants and consequent acid rain....That cap-and-trade system has cut sulfur dioxide emissions by 50 percent, and has saved electricity companies — and hence shareholders and ratepayers — some $1 billion per year compared with a conventional, non-market approach."

"To reject this legacy and embrace the failed 1970s policies of one-size-fits-all regulatory mandates would signify unilateral surrender of principled support for markets....Virtually all economists agree on a market-based approach to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Some favor carbon taxes combined with revenue-neutral cuts in distortionary taxes, whereas others support cap-and-trade mechanisms — or “cap-and-dividend,’’ with revenues from auctioned allowances refunded directly to citizens."

"A price on carbon is the least costly way to provide meaningful incentives for technology innovation and diffusion, reduce emissions from fossil fuels, and drive energy efficiency. In the long run, it can reduce our use of oil and drive our transportation system toward alternative energy sources.

Market-based approaches to environmental protection – including cap-and-trade – should be lauded, not condemned, by political leaders, no matter what their party affiliation. Demonizing cap-and-trade in the short term will turn out to be a mistake with serious long-term consequences for the economy, for business, and for consumers."

Pytanie #16:

Is Turkey getting back to the real world from those dreams she had about how it will make Israel apologize?

Turkish Government is actively opposing the sending of the “ Lebanon humanitarian flotilla” to Israel.

After the incident with the Turkish “flotilla of lie”, the Turks declared that they “broke the siege” and that sending of other ”humanitarian flotillas” is senseless and dangerous.Of course, thisclumsy attempt not to lose face will not deceive anyone, but ...What else can Turkey say?
The true reason why Ankara all of a sudden became “dovish” is simple. Turkey sees that the scandal around “Mavi Marmara” is damaging her image and her relationships with Europe and Washington. The evidences given by Israel about the links of the Turkish government with the terrorist organization and of the role of the Turkish government in the provocative sending of the flotilla with the labelled terrorists and criminals on board are irrefutable and Turks have practically nothing to say.

The economic losses Turkey is suffering from the boycott by Israeli tourists, some of the biggest Israeli supermarkets and importers also made Turkey understand that a bad peace is better than a good fight.

In the result of these factors, Turkey informed Israel through the European and American diplomats that it is interested in the normalization of the relationships with Israel. There are no doubts, said one of these diplomats, that Turkey is interested in passing the scandal to “low profile”. In order not to lose face, Turkey will not quit officially its demand of the offical apologies and compensations on the part of Israel, but it will not pedal them anymore.
So, this round is definitely won by Israelis.

Pytanie #17:

Why was there one of the best economic expansions after Clinton RAISED taxes in 1993?

To the point where revenues rose enough to create a budgetary surplus? Isn't that contrary to conservative's mantra about higher taxes = lower revenue/weaker economy?

Pytanie #18:

When the last GREAT tax increase was passed, what was the effect on the economy?

wasn't it this:

By 1930 the surplus had turned into a deficit that grew rapidly as the economy contracted. By the end of 1931 Hoover had decided to recommend a large tax increase in an attempt to balance the budget; Congress approved the tax increase in 1932. Personal exemptions were reduced sharply to increase the number of taxpayers, and rates were sharply increased. The lowest marginal rate rose from 1.125 percent to 4.0 percent, and the top marginal rate rose from 25 percent on taxable income in excess of $100,000 to 63 percent on taxable income in excess of $1 million as the rates were made much more progressive.

We now understand that such a huge tax increase does not promote recovery during a contraction. By reducing households’ disposable income, it led to a reduction in household spending and a further contraction in economic activity.
No I am refering to the personal income tax

Pytanie #19:

2012 end of the world might be true?

I know it's sound stupid but if you look at the news you'll see thousands of deaths from plane crash, flash floods, earthquakes and typhoons and etc. They arent used to be as greater extent as this. It's like they're happening again and again. In addition to the natural disasters, economic crisis is also going along and might become worst in the months to come.

I know that a 11 year old kid shouldn't be worrying about nonsense stuffs like this but as the time flows, catastrophes keep on increasing the death toll of the people who die from 2009-present due of such ominous events.

Pytanie #20:

thanks in advance.

Pytanie #22:

What do you think of my rap?

I'm not a drug dealer or a criminal, I'm just a regular white kid, had heart surgery back in February though to repair two rare heart conditions that the doctors didn't discover until now at age 25. I just feel since I'm struggling in the economy that life feels as though you are locked up in prison even though I have know idea what it's like. I like to write raps, but sometimes I try recording in the studio. Here is one rap I wrote. Let me know what you think...

Can't contend with the economic struggles
So wit these rhymes I'm tryna juggle
Being unstable it seems like you gotta smuggle
But I can only look forward to a new direction
Hoping I can flip this shit into perfection
As I ease forward bit by bit
I don't eva give up and lose my grip
but lying under anesthesia felt like I got clipped
Like somebody murdered me
Given a second chance after surgery
aortic to right atrial fistula
Was wonderin if people I knew were sayin we missin ya
You can't let the days morn ya and rot away
Your purpose in your life is to conquer every day
You only have so many opportunities set forth in front of you
That's why I gotta succeed and do what I do
Spitten these verses and never say that I can lose
Cuz this is the life I wanna lead and the road I'll always choose
Underneath the suns casting crimson
Felt like the heat was melting me from keeping the invision
Felt like I just wanted to be in prison
But I pushed the bull shit aside sayin I'm gonna be winning
Instead of thinkin I'm gonna be on the street corna fending
For what
you can't always expect for life to always be deliverin
You just gotta look for the good and to let the evil hinder
in the tough times the sun can make you feel burned and scarred
Entrapps you like someone who ends up behind bars
Not the same
no matter what obstacles in the way we can soar real far
Coming up wit these verses so damn smoothly
wish in the world we wouldn't hear the distant bangs of an oozie
I was surrounded by love and shit that abused me
But everything's all good cuz it fused me musically
It makes you stronger when the real life plays you emotionally
Makin you look at the bigger picture more closely
Changin your life around I'm ready to take on the next round
Let me flash you back to anotha era
Where beetoven dropped da base and went acapella
On da keys he was playin it deaf
But the basis of hip hop came from that
He paved the way for mc's of today
To pull the bindings out from pages of past days
And reconstruct wit beats behind a symphonic piece
Which keeps the base bumpin on da streets
Gangstas packed wit heat, riots wit city police
Takin ur last few breaths of life
It's like listening to a sonata from the past light
Cuz when the base fades away into the night
All you hear is harmonics composed by whites
If beehtoven had turn tables and a mic
I prolly wouldn't be comin up wit the shit that I write
So lets take a flight in a time machine back to classical ages
And let them hear how my flames be ragin
And get the composers crunked, smokin blunts, and showin em how futuristic
music stunts,
And let them know how the foundation built it's way up to my renovation
I'm alright, I tend to speed up and put too many words in at once sometimes I can rap fast. Allergies and Sinus infections mess me up a lot.

Pytanie #23:

British Columbia and its carbon tax?

What are your thoughts on British Columbia's carbon tax and initial report of it being economically successful?
"Perhaps even more significantly, for the average taxpayer, the carbon tax shift has been an economic boon. During 2008 and 2009, the tax raised $846 million. However, the province tied the carbon tax to reductions in personal and corporate income taxes, as well as tax credits to offset impacts on low-income individuals. The total value of these offsetting cuts was nearly $1.1 billion over those two years, meaning a net tax reduction for B.C. taxpayers of about $230 million."

Since cap and trade seems to be in the scrap heap should governments be looking at BC as an example to be followed?

Pytanie #25:

Politically speaking, do you think only rich people work hard? And is hard work always rewarded?

I'm a leftwinger and have some obvious biases on this subject, and I don't blame conservatives if they reject the standard, kneejerk radical / liberal answer on this subject.

I mean, I've lived among poor people on welfare, and some of them were OK people, but some were not. Some welfare people I've met have been lazy, dishonest, drug-addicted .. etc.

But I keep seeing conservatives & libertarians favoring economic policies that favor the rich, and their usual answer reason is, "'because the rich work hard."

Just speaking realistically, without political ideology, is it ALWAYS true that the rich people are rich because they've worked hard?

Aren't there at least some people people who get rich because they've inherited big estates from their parents? Or because they've just gotten lucky? Or because they've found ways to make other people work hard -- and have profited from it?

Also are the rich people in American the ONLY ones who work hard? Isn't it possible there are at least a few poor and middle class Americans who also have worked very hard all their lives, and haven't gotten much reward for it?

Isn't it possible, too, that U.S. economic policies and US tax policies should take into account the interests of those who work hard, but don't get rich as a result?

Pytanie #26:

Which political ideology is Obama's most like and why: socialism, fascism, communism, Marxism?

so·cial·ism
–noun
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

fas·cism
–noun
1. ( sometimes initial capital letter ) a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.
2. ( sometimes initial capital letter ) the philosophy, principles, or methods of fascism.
3. ( initial capital letter ) a fascist movement, esp. the one established by Mussolini in Italy 1922–43.

com·mu·nism
–noun
1. a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, actual ownership being ascribed to the community as a whole or to the state.
2. ( often initial capital letter ) a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.
3. ( initial capital letter ) the principles and practices of the Communist party.
4. communalism.

Marx·ism
–noun
the system of economic and political thought developed by Karl Marx, along with Friedrich Engels, esp. the doctrine that the state throughout history has been a device for the exploitation of the masses by a dominant class, that class struggle has been the main agency of historical change, and that the capitalist system, containing from the first the seeds of its own decay, will inevitably, after the period of the dictatorship of the proletariat, be superseded by a socialist order and a classless society.

Pytanie #27:

Is President Obama and his 34% approval rating a DRAG on dems looking for re-election?

Has anyone seen ANY of the candidates ASKING for Obama to come campaign for them?

Also, who wants to bet that due to the MSM, Obama's approval numbers magically go up by at least 5 to 10 points before this November?

excerpt...
A new independent poll in Missouri paints a grim picture for the president. Obama's job approval rating stood at just 34 percent with the overall electorate; among independents the numbers were even worse with just 27 percent approving of the job Obama is doing and 63 percent disapproving.

"Midterm elections are usually a referendum on the President," said one Democratic pollster granted anonymity to speak candidly. "But I think there are a host of other numbers that are more worrisome -- right direction, lack of economic optimism, the Democrats in Congress having poor numbers and the sharp rise in anti-incumbency."

Elections are far more complex than many people -- including the media (damn media!) -- typically assume and, as a result, it's impossible to quantitatively measure exactly what the Obama effect will be this fall.

But, numbers like the ones in Missouri have to be concerning for Democratic candidates who have to hope Obama's approval ratings improve between now and Nov. 2. Running with a light breeze in your face is one thing; running with a gale force wind blowing against you is quite another.

AND I know that the poll was about Missouri... the article quotes polls from several states, and then the national one...you should read it.
IRD00A: Ahem, COngressional approval rating is now at 11%, not anywhere NEAR 22%, stop lying for the liberals.

Pytanie #28:

Hey look at this blogy thing about our little section, yahoo published a message to Y/A G/S feminists?

"We’re adding to the debate stirred up by Hana Rosin’s July cover story “The End of Men” for Atlantic Monthly magazine and its counterpart column by Nicholas Kristof in the New York Times, “Don’t Write Off Men Just Yet”.

Our Answers Team community managers have had some interesting discussions on the topic and Graziana (our Latin American community manager) and I thought it would be fun to bring the discussion to our virtual table. the sub category “Gender Studies.”

The main focus of this section is to exchange points of view and experiences concerning the roles of males and females, taking into consideration psychological, anthropologic, economic, and historic aspects. It is a place to discuss the meaning of “being male” and “being female” and their constant redefinitions. We encourage a healthy debate about the stereotypes and limits imposed by culture and biology. To quote one of my favorite French philosophers Simone de Beauvoir (a pioneer in gender studies), “Gender is used to refer to the social and cultural constructions of masculinities and femininities, not to the state of being male or female”.

Curiously, “gender studies” has been focused from the beginning around the “feminine being” as a reaction against the complete absence of feminine perspectives in social sciences. The new social science was part of a bigger movement to claim equal participation for women in all spheres of social life.

Today, many feel that goal has been mostly achieved and there is arguably little need to devote a space exclusively to study the “female being”. On the contrary, many think there is a need to open the game to include the “male being” and the cultural shifts that have been taking place as a result of that equality—think stay-at-home dads and the like.

Yahoo have picked up on the debate that started after professional misandrist Hana Roisin published her gloating "End of men" article (THAT is what a feminist looks like!) and there is a message in there too for all the yahoo feminists that have been telling tales .....

What do you make of that?

I've found this section to be a good indicator of things to come, everything the misandrist brings up in her article has been regularly discussed here, over the past few years.

Why do I feel sorry for Liberal/Socialists/Progressives?

Why do I feel sorry for Liberal/Socialists/Progressives?

It seems that whenever I bring up such things as the coming economic collapse, the printing of all that paper money by the treasury day and night, Obama healthcare, the wrong direction that the administration is taking our country or all the Marxists and Communists surrounding our President, those on the left rise up in defense of these?

These are defended, not with debates, but with anger, profanities and insults right out of Saul Alinsky’s Progressive playbook?

The fact seems to be that they cannot debate any issues other than with shouting and put-downs and violence.

I may be wrong with some of these types, but it seems that most, if not all, are a godless, selfish, angry lot schooled in our government run public schools where they learned how to put a condom on a cucumber, learned that homosexuality is good healthy and normal and support the killing of their out of wedlock, unborn, American children?

Calling for shutting down of all dissenting voices that are educating and informing those who love this country and our Constitution to the point of killing them. (Murdering them)? We who they accuse of embracing our bibles and shotguns? (They may be somewhat right about this).

Lastly, I doubt that this YA question will last 1 hour because of someone’s anger and juvenility.

Pytanie #33:

DOES ANYONE KNOW?!?!?

So I'm reading this article written by Laurence Rees that talks about the turning point of World War Two, and he gets opinions from various people and then shares his own. The homework asks, "what was the bias of the author?" how would i answer that?

Does anyone know the difference between political, social, and economic writing? or like what each of them talk about?

Also, what are credentials? How would i find Laurence Rees credentials?

I've already looked on google various times to find an answer to these questions but havent found any please help.

Pytanie #36:

Why don't the numbers support what AZ is trying to do with their immigration bill?

"The most compelling conclusions from this assessment are (1) the undocumented workforce is vital to US business growth and prosperity (and, in some cases, sustainability) and, thus, (2) an enforcement-only and removal approach is simply not viable." - Perryman Group (Impact of the Undocumented Workforce, 2008)

In a 2008 study the Perryman Group, found clear evidence that undocumented workers are currently making contributions to the US economy and society, especially in certain industries and occupations. If all undocumented workers were removed from the workforce, a number of industries would face substantial shortages of workers, and Americans would have to be induced into the labor pool or provided incentives to take jobs far below their current education and skill levels. For the US as a whole, the short-term negative effect of eliminating the undocumented workforce would include an estimated $651.5 billion in annual lost output (gross product) and 8.1 million lost jobs.

Even after the economy had a chance to adjust, the economic cost of eliminating this important resource would include almost $245.0 billion in lost output each year and more than 2.8 million less jobs. In addition, the adjustment process would be difficult to achieve in a reasonable period of time. Evidence suggests that many agricultural enterprises are not sufficiently strong financially to survive even a single year in which crops could not be harvested and marketed. Thus, the underlying productive apparatus would be dismantled, resulting in lengthy delays and substantial obstacles to efforts to overcome the initial effects. Similarly, the inability to complete construction projects in a timely manner could lead to alternative and suboptimal land use that would have lasting adverse consequences. Many communities that are dependent on tourism would also have their fundamental structures undermined in a permanent fashion.

Clearly, the economic stakes are high, and any policy should be carefully implemented to avoid excessive fallout.Whatever may be the eventual changes in US immigration policies and practices, there is no doubt that the new Arizona law has been the catalyst that has once again pushed the subject to the front burner of the political spectrum at a most inopportune time for those seeking election or re-election. Solutions are being demanded, and the outcomes of numerous impending local, state, and national races, as well as our national culture, could be impacted by forthcoming decisions. There is no doubt that responsible reform is needed, but it must be structured in a manner that realistically recognizes the realties of the US economy. The Arizona Bill does not do this.

When will I receive my Hawaii State Tax Refund?

I haven't received my Hawaii State Tax Refund yet. There is was a delay on receiving our State Tax Refund here in Hawaii due to the economic short fall. So Governor Linda Lingle said, the earliest the people of Hawaii could be expecting their refunds is at beginning on July. So the people who filed early in January or February should've already received their refund. My cousin filed my tax for me, but didn't submit it within the last two weeks of March. And up till now I haven't received anything yet. So I am wondering if there is anyone out there that is experiencing the same thing as i am and know when I should been receiving my State Tax Refund? Cause I thought I heard the latest would be by the ending on this month (July)?!

Pytanie #43:

Is this the stark and astonishing truth in a single paragraph?

'For what the US political establishment's non-response to the credit crunch illustrates is this: such is the lobbying power of the big Wall Street institutions that they not only caused a global economic crisis and then forced the US government to pay for a massive bail-out, but then used a slice of that bail-out cash to bribe politicians with campaign donations in order to block rule changes that might prevent a repeat performance. That leaves the politicians and high-flying bankers happy, of course, while regular citizens – and their children and grandchildren – foot the multi-billion dollar bill.'

Does the destruction of the middle class through income disparity destroy demand?

Does the destruction of the middle class through income disparity destroy the demand for products and and thus create economic contraction and slowly diminish self-perpetuating prosperity?

I have seen that many Conservatives are not worried about the income disparity, do you think the concern above is valid?

This isn't homework, I actually talk this way because I think the questions are taken more seriously in this straight kind of tone.

Surely the EU is large enough already, where do we draw the line at what does and does not constitute a european nation? What about Russia? Or India? Or even Iraq? How far can the EU realistically expand? And given all the economic problems in Europe is it wise to expand the union?
Why is it considered a good thing for Britain to have Turkey enter the EU?

Pytanie #48:

Why do republicans support tax cuts for the rich and big corporations?

The corporate world is experiencing record profits, and they are keeping all that wealth for themselves.
They are firing millions of Americans so their rich owners can make more money and collect more dividends.

According to Republicans, dating as far back as the Nixon Presidency, If we reduce taxes for these rich owners and their corporations, they will hire more, increase wages, and we will all prosper. This is called the "trickle down economic theory".

For the last 40 years, most of them held by Republican Presidents, we have systematically reduced the taxes for the richest Americans with the hope that they will improve the economy. Instead, they have just made themselves much richer and made our workers work harder for less money. Now, they are even firing millions while collecting record dividends.

QUESTION 1:
If trickle down theory really worked, why has the nation's working class constantly had a reduction in the quality of life over the last 40 years? For 40 years, workers wages have not kept pace with inflation or home values, but for the rich, their wealth has grown at triple the rate of inflation. In short, the workers are getting poorer, and the rich are getting richer. If trickle down theory worked, why aren't working class Americans keeping up with inflation over the last 40 years.

QUESTION 2:
Why can't republicans see that further reducing the taxes for the rich will not bring back jobs, or make the working class wages increase? It hasn't kept up with inflation for an entire 2 generations, why would an additional tax break for the corporations and owners translate into more jobs now?

QUESTION 3:
How can Republicans justify supporting a rich ownership class that has consistently shown that it will ship jobs overseas, reduce wages, fire workers, commit health and safety violations, and even cover up mass deaths and illnesses in the name of profits, especially when they have been hoarding those profits for the last 40 years?

Side note: This is way way before Obama people, so don't even begin to blame him. The question is WHY do you support the Republican ideology of supporting the rich over the worker, and why do you support the ideology that if we reduce taxes for the rich, that somehow you will suddenly benefit from it, when you, and your parents, haven't benefited from it for over 40 years
Jake: Then how do you justify the record high profits and the record high unemployment? By the way, I also took several statistics classes in grad school. In them we covered this topic, and statistically, every time we increased taxes, unemployment actually went down. I guess the correlation coefficient for your stats shows a negative R value!
JOHN: That is exactly what they have been doing for the last 40 years. Look at the data. The rich are getting richer and the middle class is being destroyed. That indicates that the reduction in taxes for the rich over the last 40 years has caused them to hoard their money. THEY ARE NOT INVESTING IN PEOPLE, Only themselves.
It pains me that so many people cannot see that the rich are destroying the middle class. It pains me that people think that I am dumb for looking at the workers wages not keeping up with inflation, while the owners rate of wealth is triple that of inflation. These are facts people, not opinion. We have systematically reduced taxes for the rich, and we are getting destroyed for it.

Pytanie #49:

Why can't conservatives admit that supply-side economics has failed?

Keynesian economics is what is needed right now:

Keynesian economics advocates a mixed economy—predominantly private sector, but with a large role of government and public sector—and served as the economic model during the latter part of the Great Depression, World War II, and the post-war economic expansion (1945–1973)
Za Za - You again have no sense of reality. We are still stuck in Supply Side.
Captain Awesome - You also seem to not really be here with us in the real world.
Jack - 1945 to 1973....
dnafairy - Ever hear about the moon landing.
This happened in 1969 - even while we were paying for a war.

Pytanie #50:

So, supply-side economics is "at will" and only works when the rich and big business decides it will?

Don't you conservatives see that your economic ideology is an "at will" ideology that only the rich and big business controls?
You have NO control of the economy and nothing is trickling down to any of you.

Good luck with each of your start-up businesses that your elected repubs keep blocking tax cuts for....

Thanks for the link Matt D.
Grandma ZaZa: You seem to completely miss the point of almost every one of my questions. This question is not about government but is about economics. Pay attention!!!
imaxkr - why are your republicans blocking the tax break?
wholsjo - that also means "at will" to stall the economy for say, political reasons. You only see one side of a coin I guess.
jeeper - this supply-side crap did not come into play until the mid 80's. I guess you weren't paying attention.
kcbf - Yes - and with MY and YOUR tax money... genius.
Sounds like all you conservatives think the economy is going just great. You must have been creaming your pants during the Clinton years when the economy was red-hot!!!
